This is a challenging route a you will be trekking up to 20KM a day yet amazingly picturesque as Arhangai is known to Mongolians as the “Horse Breeders Paradise” for its beauty. This trek from Ger to Ger up to the mountain lake is a great way to experience nomadic culture.

Difficulty of trip: Challenging
Method of travel: Lots of trekking w/ horses and ox-carts available at some families

Itinerary in Detail
Day 1 : Ulaanbaatar to first ger:
Public transfer will leave UB at 08:00 in the morning from Dragon center and you will arrive in Tsetserleg around 18:00 in the evening. There will be your local driver waiting for you and will take you to the first family Bultenbor. Stay overnight there and they will show you how to milk sheep and play national anklebone game, either in the evening or next morning depending on your day.

Day 2 : First ger to second ger:
This morning the herders will load up the yak cart after breakfast and you will start hiking to the second family along the beautiful Tamir valley. Along the way you will pass Mongolia's oldest school and the ruins of a Buddhist monastery. Although the communists destroyed monastery during the 1930s a local teacher Natsagnyam has managed to reconstruct the eight stupas on the site of the monastery with the support from local people. The original monastery was built over a hundred years ago and accommodated about 3000 monks.

In 1918, Mongolia's first school was established and it’s still functioning today. In addition, this Tamir river valley has full of ancient graves and burial sites. You will spot many Khirgesuur (piles of stones marking the burial site of an ancient warrior) and many tombstones. After 30km of trekking, we will reach Battulga’s family ger.

Day 3 : Second ger to Khairkhan mountain:

Today we will pack up all the luggage and tents and will start trekking to our next stop. Its 20 km from Khairkhan mountain and the terrain becomes more challenging with small rivers to cross and some hills to pass over. We will arrive in Byamba-Ochir’s home and there you will learn how to pack the yaks either with carts or on their back. Stay over night next to Byamba-Ochir’s ger.

Day 5 : To Khukh Nuur:
Today we don’t need to pack all the luggage instead we will take our day pack and start trekking up to the 'Blue Lake' with the local herder. It will be about 25km round trip and you will enjoy the beauty of this mountain lake. Return to third ger and rest.
